Furusato Nozei Project, Japan

BRANDING
PACKAGING

The Furusato Nozei program allows Japanese residents to allocate a portion of their city tax to various municipalities across Japan in exchange for regional products, offering a unique opportunity to support local communities while receiving incentives. I worked on a project that focused exclusively on redesigning food packaging for products offered through this system, aiming to elevate their visual appeal and premium quality. My role involved collaborating with multiple municipal governments and prefectures to enhance the packaging design, ensuring it resonated with both local consumers and foreign expats living in Japan.

By modernizing the food packaging, I helped transform products from lesser-known and less-populated prefectures into visually compelling offerings that stood out in a competitive market. The redesigned packaging not only reflected the quality and craftsmanship of these regional food products but also fostered a deeper emotional connection with consumers, encouraging them to allocate their tax contributions to support these communities and boosting local tax revenue in the process.
